Project Pop Box! October 10, 2017

Greetings to the lovely community of Pop My Mind.

We at Pop My Mind have got something new and pretty special in the works that we’d like to show you.

After a month of hard work researching, creating and tea drinking at Pop HQ I can finally reveal project Pop Box!

Our two Pop Boxes are titled ‘Inspire My Mind,’ and  ‘Love My Mind.’

In the “Inspire my mind” box, which incorporated the theme of creativity, I designed and made gifts that were interactive and promoted creative ideas. The first item in the box is the draw able tote bags, allowing the user to continue on the designs by Pop My Mind talents Demi Hopkins, Sander Steins and Sam Spicer. Included with the bags are fabric pens and a note challenging the viewer to upload their designs to Instagram tagging us at @_popmymind

The next gift in this box uses the brilliant sculpture Hate by sculptor Martin Swan, and with the help of talented techy genius Jimmy Sarson, we turned it into a functional stationary pot! Who doesn’t want a baby head on their desk guarding their pens?

Box number two, the ‘Love my mind’ box, has been made to encourage health and well-being. This box is all about chilling out at the workplace, so I incorporated an extract from the brilliant poem Beyond by Liz Mares onto a travel flask which also turns into a juice bottle! Lets just say Team Pop and I were very jealous.

The last gift in this box was made by yours truly, Pop My Mind asking me to make one of my sculptures as a final addition to the set. Thinking about well-being, I took this a stage further and turned my sculptures into a ceramic flower pot. This was a fantastic experience as I got the opportunity to play around with clay and different glazes which really helped with my practice. I was even given a go on the potters wheel! After hand sculpting the pot, I applied lots of different glazes using many different automatic techniques; the end result was truly fantastic and a big surprise.

One of my favourite pieces included in both the boxes were some very stylish and funky notebooks. These books featured some of the best work from our artists, including Katie Borkin, Georgie Dev and Rosie Conheady

We have included in these special boxes a leaflet and these cool business cards that also have a dual function as USB sticks. The work on the USB sticks themselves is by Katie Borkin with a remixed version by Sander Steins on the reverse. The USB stick contains more work such as music and videos, as well as an unboxing video by myself explaining these boxes and what makes both of them special and unique.

I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved with the project, Team Pop for all of your support, kindness and hot drinks, and of course I couldn’t have done it with out the fantastic Pop My Mind community. Keep creating and being brilliant!
