Project Description

OXEMS is a spin-out from Oxford University and has developed a revolutionary underground asset management system for use by utility companies.  Solving the problem of locating and identifying buried plastic pipes and fittings, the system utilises advanced RFID tag technology combined with a GPS-enabled detector to allow utilities to record the position of their buried assets and subsequently find them easily and quickly.

Nerostorm has developed the entire OXEMS software platform, consisting of a back-end system for storage of GIS-based asset information and associated photographs, secure RESTful web-services for remote access to the data and a web-based administration interface to allow data management, configuration and reporting by the end-user.

Tablet and phone-based Android apps have also been developed as the core of the RFID detector UI and to provide field access to the recorded asset data.  The apps incorporate rFindGoTo – an innovative and patented set of algorithms and UI to guide the user to the exact location of buried assets.  Nerostorm also created a high-precision GPS device to augment the Android devices’ limited GPS capability.
